Men’s Tennis Picks Up Victory Over Weekend Of Duals

Staten Island, NY, Fairfield, CT, and Hamden, CT - The Wagner men's tennis team competed in a trifecta of duals over the weekend. Starting on Friday, the Seahawks hosted NEC opponent Merrimack at the CSI Tennis Courts. Wagner then traveled to Sacred Heart for another NEC dual to take on the Pioneers. The Seahawks then finished Sunday with a non-conference dual against Quinnipiac.

On Friday, the Wagner College men's tennis team moved to 2-0 in NEC conference play with a 4-3 win over Merrimack College. 

The Seahawks got the ball rolling by securing the doubles point. It was the third straight doubles win for Wagner and fourth in their last 5 matches. 

Juniors Rodrigo Perez and Odeda Arazza combined for a 6-1 doubles triumph over Merrimack's Andre Singer and Henrik Lindeman. Seniors Tejasvi Mehra and Omar Loutfy clinched the doubles point for the Seahawks with a 6-2 win at the #1 spot.

Rodrigo Perez led the way for the Seahawks with wins at #2 doubles and #1 singles. In singles, Perez recovered after dropping the first set in a tiebreaker, defeating Lindeman 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-0.

The Seahawks got a win from Arazza at #2 singles, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 over Singer. The clincher came when Sebastian Dobson downed Merrimack's Pedro Mancini in the #6 singles spot, 7-6 (4), 7-5. It was Dobson's third straight singles win to start his dual match career. 


On Saturday, the Seahawks faced a tough Pioneers team and was defeated by a score of 6-1.

Odeda Arazza was victorious in the #4 singles, winning 6-2, 6-1 over Darius Eftekhar. Tejasvi Mehra brought his #1 singles to the third set but would drop the dual, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.


On Sunday, the Seahawks finished the weekend against the Bobcats, but would eventually lose 5-2.

Wagner secured the doubles point with wins by Tejasvi Mehra and Omar Loutfy at #1 doubles, and Rodrigo Perez and Odeda Arazza at #2 doubles, both duos won with scores of 6-4.

Quinnipiac then stormed back in singles competition, winning five out of the six possible matches. Omar Loutfy was victorious in the #5 singles, winning 6-3, 0-6, 6-1 to give the Seahawks their second point of the dual.

Next up, Wagner men's tennis will host NEC opponent Stonehill for their Senior Day at the CSI Tennis Courts. This dual is set for Sunday, March 26th, at 2:00 pm.
