Queens, NY - The Wagner College men's tennis team competed in its first dual match of the season against St. John's at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Friday.
In the first half of competition, graduate student Philip Lynch dropped the #1 singles match to St. John graduate student Diogo Marques.
Senior Omar Loutfy battled St. John's junior Matthew Mosejczuk in straight sets in a singles competition.
Junior Odeda Arazza forced a tie-breaker in his second set against freshman Alex Verdasco, but would eventually go down in two sets, 4-6, 6-7.
In doubles action, Omar Loutfy and Tejasvi Mehra lost their match against Diogo Marques and St. John's sophomore Carl Gustafsson, 2-6.
To wrap up the first match of the two, senior Jai Sai Venkatramana and junior Lucas Darling were beaten by St. John's freshman Adam Groves and graduate student Roger Rogowski. As well as junior Aryan Gupta and senior Abhinav Magow falling to Nishant Dabas and Sergio Molina.The Seahawks dropped the first match to the Red Storm 7-0.
In the second half of competition, Tejasvi Mehra had his turn at Diogo Marques in the #1 singles match but fell in straight sets.
To wrap up a day of tennis, Odeda Arazza and Kunsh Moolchandani fell to Matthew Mosejcuk and Roger Rogowski, 2-6. The Seahawks also dropped the second game to the Red Storm 7-0.
Next up, Wagner men's tennis will travel to Temple University on Sunday for a 2:00 pm match against the Owls.
