This Week In Wagner Athletics; Six Teams In Action As Field Hockey Hosts Senior Day

Staten Island, NY - Here is a look at the Wagner Athletics events for this week.

Football 
- The Seahawks will take on CCSU on Saturday at noon at Hameline Field.
- Wagner sits at 2-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play and 1-0 at home.
- Freshman Jaylen Bonelli was named the NEC Rookie of the Week

Field Hockey 
- The Seahawks will continue NEC play on Friday, October 20 at LIU before hosting Rider for senior day on Sunday, October 22.
- In two games last week, the Green & White fell in an NEC contest 2-1 to Fairfield before defeating Towson 2-1.

Soccer 
- The Seahawks have a chance to clinch a Northeast Conference (NEC) playoff spot for the first time since 2014 with a win or a tie in their next game against Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday, October 19 at 7:00 pm.
- The team went 2-0 this past week with a pair of 1-0 victories over Delaware State and Sacred Heart. Junior Sam Hughes earned her third NEC Defensive Player of the Week nod of the season for pitching the two shutouts, which were her fifth and sixth on the year. 

Fencing 
- Wagner will begin its 2023-24 season at the Garret Invitational, hosted by Penn State, from Saturday, October 21 to Sunday, October 22. 
- The women's team is coming off of a successful season and will welcome seven newcomers. Meanwhile, the Garret Invitational will mark the debut of the Wagner men's fencing program.

Bowling 
- Wagner will begin their 2023-24 season as they roll into East Haven, CT for the Bowl for a Cure, hosted at AMF Circle Lanes
- Newly hired head coach Anthony Pepe will take over the program which earned four conference wins last season. 

Women's Golf
- The Seahawks will conclude their fall slate in Colts Neck, NJ for the Vanessa Picciotto Perrine Memorial match play event against Monmouth on Tuesday, October 17.
- In the team's previous event this past weekend, junior Ximena de la Garza came in 12th place after shooting a 165 (+21).
