Teaneck, NJ – The Wagner women's soccer team dropped a Northeast Conference (NEC) contest to Fairleigh Dickinson 1-0.
Both teams applied pressure in the opening 45 minutes of the contest as the team's combined for 16 shots. The Knights tallied nine while the Seahawks tallied seven. Senior goalkeeper
Erin Kelly stopped the lone shot on target in the first half.
Wagner tallied three shots on target in the first half while earning two corner kicks but were unable to convert as the game headed to the second half scoreless.
The Knights opened the scoring in the second half with 27 minutes remaining as sophomore Aitana Martinez-Montoya opened the scoring.
After falling behind, Wagner continued to apply pressure with a number of set piece opportunities.
The Seahawks tallied nine shots in the final 45 minutes while causing Fairleigh Dickinson sophomore goalkeeper Malene Nielsen to make three stops in the second half.
Erin Kelly stopped four shots in the contest while senior's
Madison Carr and
Annie White led Wagner with three shots along with junior
Kayla Barbosa. Two out of the three shots for Carr and Barbosa were on target.
Sophomore
Olivia Rubbo had two shots and one on target in the contest.
Fifth year senior
Gabby Cipriano, senior's
Maddie Wilde and
Juliana Rafaniello along with
Kayla Barbosa played all 90 minutes for Wagner in the contest.
Wagner will head home to Hameline Field on Sunday, October 2 when they welcome St. Francis Brooklyn at 1:00 P.M. The contest on Sunday will celebrate the eight seniors in the program.
