Old Bridge, NJ – The Wagner field hockey team fell to Monmouth, 3-2, in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
In the opening frame, both teams tallied two shots while Wagner had two on target. Both Monmouth shots were stopped by graduate student goalkeeper
Daisy Ruhle.
Both sides applied pressure in the second frame as Monmouth tallied four shots and Wagner attempted three.
Daisy Ruhle stopped two more shots in the second period bringing her game total to four entering the second half.
Monmouth jumped on the board first 2:06 into the third quarter before doubling their lead 11 minutes later to take a 2-0 lead into the final 15 minutes. Despite allowing two goals,
Daisy Ruhle stopped five shots in the third quarter.
Wagner launched a fourth quarter comeback in its second consecutive game as sophomore
Liselotte Koop cut the Monmouth lead in half with 10:40 remaining in the frame. The goal was her first of the season and was assisted by graduate student
Julia Cruces Pastorino.
With 4:43 remaining, senior
Kira Mordvinov leveled the score with her third goal of the season, her goal was assisted by graduate student
Kayla Kruk. For Kruk, it was her second assist in as many games.
With the game level at two, the Seahawks entered overtime for the second consecutive game.
After defeating Towson in overtime on Friday, Wagner allowed a goal four minutes in overtime to give Monmouth the victory.
Daisy Ruhle stopped ten shots in the contest while
Julia Cruces Pastorino led Wagner with three four shots in the game. As a team, Wagner tallied 11 shots.
Wagner will return to action on Friday, September 30 when they take on Merrimack in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener at 1:00 P.M.
