Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College football team took a 28-20 lead on a 29-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback
Nick Kargman to senior
Jayvin Little with 7:39 to play in the third quarter, but Fordham fought back to come up with a 48-31 victory at Hameline Field on Thursday night.
In his first action as a Seahawk, Kargman threw for 218 yards on 13 completions with two touchdown passes. Junior
Naiem Simmons was on the receiving end of eight passes, coming up with a team-high 162 yards and one touchdown.
Defensively, junior
Andre Crawley led Wagner with 10 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, with graduate student
Titus Leo contributing nine tackles and four tackles for loss.
Wagner took an early 7-0 lead on a two-yard run by sophomore
Rickey Spruill in the first quarter. After the Rams fought back to take a 14-7 lead, Kargman hit
Naiem Simmons on a 34-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 14-14 with 9:25 to play in the second quarter.
The Seahawk defense stepped up from there, as freshman
Jayden Brown came up with an end zone interception to keep the score tied. With time winding down in the first half, junior
Christian Davis gave the Seahawks the lead, scooping up a lateral pass by Fordham quarterback Tim DeMorat and taking it 17 yards for the lead.
The Rams pulled away in the second half, outscoring Wagner 34-10.
Next up, the Seahawks will travel to Rutgers on September 10 at 4:00 pm.
