Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Carr's Late Score Caps Seahawks Come-From-Behind Win Over NJIT, 2-1, On Wednesday Night

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's soccer trailed 1-0 with under ten minutes left to go before Olivia Rubbo netted the tying score in the 83' before Madison Carr scored the game-winner as the Seahawks defeated NJIT, 2-1, in come-from-behind fashion on Wednesday evening at Hameline Field.

Wagner (2-3-0) has now won back-to-back matches while snapping the Highlanders' (1-1-3) unbeaten streak at four.

Both teams played to a stalemate in the opening half of action, with NJIT outshooting Wagner, 10-5.

The Green & White nearly got on the board first as Kayla Barbosa booted a long-range attempt that hit the crossbar in the 25th minute.

Reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week Erin Kelly was able to make two stops in the opening half while her counterpart, Molly Saylor, was credited with one.

The visitors controlled much of the tempo in the early portion of the second half, testing Kelly on a pair of chance, but the Massapequa, NY native was up to the task.

NJIT was able to break the scoreless tie in the 68th minute as Sydney Watson was able to head the ball past Kelly off the corner kick from Aleesha Deshmukh, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

With 22 minutes remaining in the contest, the Seahawks flipped the momentum to their side. Carr put a shot on goal, but Saylor redirected the shot high over the goal, giving Wagner a corner kick.

On the ensuing set piece, Gabby Cipriano sent the ball into the box that was controlled by Barbosa, who booted a left-footed shot on target into the hands of Saylor.

The Highlander nearly doubled their lead on a wide-open chance by Deshmukh, but her shot sailed high over the goal.

Wagner wasted little time and found the equalizer as Rubbo was able to finish the well-time thru ball from Juliana Rafaniello as the Seahawks tied the match at 1-1.

With a little over a minute left to play, Saylor was attempting to clear the ball, but senior Isabella Manzella intercepted the pass. The ball ricocheted and Carr was able to boot a long-distance shot that trickled past Saylor, giving the Seahawks a 2-1 edge.

Wagner will look to make it three straight wins on Sunday afternoon as they will host Iona University. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
