Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pair of Late Goals Downs Women's Soccer On Sunday Afternoon, 2-1

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's soccer team broke a scoreless tie in the 59th minute. Fordham netted the tying and eventual go-ahead winner nearly nine minutes apart as the Seahawks dropped a 2-1 home decision on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 0-2-0 on the season while the Rams improve to 1-1-0 on the young season.

Both teams drew even after the first 45 minutes of action. Over the first 15 minutes, the two teams combined for eight corner kicks with Wagner attempting six chances in the first third of the contest.

Wagner sophomore goalkeeper Sam Hughes turned away three of the next four shots in keeping the game scoreless.

The Seahawks had two shot attempts in the half, as in the 34th Emma Roe's attempt was blocked before Kayla Barbosa sent an attempt wide of the goal three minutes later.

When play resumed for the second half, the Seahawks would be the ones that struck first. Senior tri-captain Annie White received the ball on the left side from Emma Roe

The Rocky Hill, CT native sent a left-footed shot attempt that took a bounce in front of Fordham's Maria O'Sullivan in the box. Senior forward Madison Carr was able to head the ball to the back of the net, giving Wagner a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, Fordham answered back in tying the game at one. Julia Holton sent a ball that found Caroline Monahan on the far side. The ball took another weird hop, splitting by Maddie Wilde and Hughes into the net to even the match at one.

The Rams broke the 1-1 tie a mere nine minutes later. Kristen Cocozza received the pass and crossed the ball toward the front of the net that was corralled by Carmen Hardwick who put a touch on it that gave the visitors a one goal lead and the win.

Hughes finished with ten saves while her counterpart O'Sullivan made two stops.

The Green & White embarks on their first road trip of the season, as the Seahawks travel to Baltimore, MD on Thursday to square off against UMBC. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
