Men's Tennis Records First Win Of Spring Season At NJCU; 8-1

Jersey City, NJ - The Wagner men's tennis team picked up their first win of the spring season, as the Seahawks defeated the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon. 

With the win, the Green & White moves to 2-8 on the season while the Gothic Knights fall to 2-4. 

Each match in Wednesday's contest counted as one decision. 

Wagner swept through the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead. The pairing of Aryan Gupta and Jordan Hunte recorded an 8-3 win over Ryan Weiss and Olaf de Lange at No. 3. 

Odeda Arazza and Rodrigo Perez notched an 8-2 triumph over Alejandro Ley and Jordi Julia at No. 2 while Tejasvi Mehra and Omar Loutfy edged out Theo Bourghelle and Nico Teynie, 8-6. 

The Seahawks took five of six matches in singles action. Hunte recorded a 6-3; 6-1 win over de Lange at No. 5. Loutfy followed that up with a 6-2; 6-2 win over Julia at No. 4. 

NJCU got on the board as Weiss bested Gupta, 6-2; 7-5 at No. 6. 

Wagner got back on track, as Arazza was able to withstand an early setback, 6-1, before rattling off a 6-4; 6-2 winner at No. 3. 

Mehra's match at No. 1 also went three sets, as he was able to defeat Teynie, 4-6; 6-3; 10-7 while Perez came back to win his match at No. 2, 6-7 (3-7), 6-2; 10-3. 

Due to impending inclement weather, Thursday's Northeast Conference (NEC) match with FDU has been postponed until April 10. 

Wagner will be in action on Saturday, March 26, as they travel to Mount St. Mary's for a 10:00 a.m. start.
