Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Falls To Vermont On Sunday

Burlington, VT – The Wagner women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference match to the University of Vermont, 14-11, on Sunday afternoon.

For the second consecutive game, graduate student Madeine Seims scored the first goal of the contest to give the Green & White the early 1-0 lead 58 seconds into the first quarter. After the Catamounts responded three minutes later to tie the game, senior Maria Henwood gave Wagner a 2-1 lead 47 seconds later off a feed from freshman Ella Marino. The Green & White held the lead for seven minutes before junior Ava Vasile scored two goals in 51 seconds to give Vermont a 3-2 lead after the opening quarter.
Wagner began the second stanza on a 3-0 run thanks in part to goals from freshman Kendra Hall, Madeine Seims, and senior Kasey Dorney. For Hall, it was her first goal as a member of the Seahawks as the run gave Wagner a 5-3 lead with 3:34 remaining. The Catamounts responded with a 3-0 run of their own to retake the lead late in the second quarter. The hosts took a 6-5 lead into the intermission.
The 3-0 run that ended the first half for Vermont was continued in the third and fourth quarters as the Catamounts outscored Wagner 2-0 in the third quarter and scored the first two goals of the fourth quarter. Graduate student and reigning NEC Prime Performer Victoria Tucci got on the scoresheet off an assist from freshman Sophia Colver. For Colver, it was her first point as a member of the program.

Madeline Seims found the back of the net twice on eight shots while freshman Angelina Skowronski scooped four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Along with her one goal, Kasey Dorney dished out one assist and scooped three groundballs while causing three turnovers. Reigning NEC Defensive Player of the Week senior goalkeeper Lauren DiStefano stopped 12 shots in the contest.

Maria Henwood and Kasey Dorney are the only Seahawks to tally goals in all four contests this season as Dorney has found the back of the net six times and Henwood has scored five times. Madeline Seims leads the Green & White with seven goals on the season and has scored in three out of four contests so far this season.

Wagner will be back in action on Saturday, March 5 when they will take on non-conference opponent Lehigh at 12:00 P.M.
