Staten Island, NY – The Wagner field hockey team fell to Fairfield in the Northeast Conference (NEC) semifinal.
In a close first quarter, both teams tallied three shots. Wagner graduate student goalkeeper
Daisy Ruhle stopped two shots in the frame to keep the game scoreless.
In the second quarter, Fairfield took to the offensive as they found the back of the net 3:15 into the quarter. A little over 10 minutes later, Fairfield doubled its lead as the game entered the third quarter with a 2-0 lead.
Fairfield tallied seven shots in the opening half while Wagner tallied six,
Daisy Ruhle stopped three shots in the half.
In the third quarter, the Seahawks gained momentum as they held Fairfield without a shot as Wagner tallied three.
In the fourth quarter, the Seahawks found the back of the net as the NEC Offensive Player of the Year
Julia Cruces Pastorino scored the first goal in Wagner field hockey playoff history.
Following the goal from Cruces Pastorino, Wagner applied an enormous amount of pressure to stay within striking distance of Fairfield.
Wagner launched seven penalty corner opportunities in the fourth quarter.
The Stags were able to hold for the victory and will advance to the NEC championship game against Rider on Sunday, November 6.
