Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner women's soccer team outshot the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers, 15-11, but a pair of first half goals by the Mount proved to be the difference as the Seahawks dropped a 2-0 decision on Thursday evening.
Junior forward
Madison Carr, the Northeast Conference's (NEC) leading scorer-entering play this evening, tallied five shots with two finds their way on target. Senior tri-captain
Luisa Barone added four attempts (two on net), while fellow captain,
Annie White, added three shot attempts.
FIRST HALF
- Wagner came out on the attack early as Barone lofted a shot left of the target a minute into the match.
- Two minutes later, it was Carr's turn, as she found space, but pushed her chance to the left.
- The Mountaineers struck for the first goal of the match in the ninth minute. Elisabeth Rockhill, the conference's leader in points, sent a shot that was stopped by freshman keeper, Sam Hughes, but Hannah Cooksey was able to locate the loose ball and bury the second chance opportunity, giving Mount St. Mary's a 1-0 lead.
- The Seahawks nearly tied it in the 11th minute as Kyle McNally booted one to the bottom but Arden Lembryk was there to make the stop.
- Mount was able to increase its lead, 2-0, 22 minutes into the opening half as Kalli Bell sent one past Hughes.
- The Green & White continued to apply pressure in looking to cut the deficit in half. Barone strung together a pair of chance, with her first shot going to the bottom right of the goal and the second, toward the top of the goal.
- Lembryk stopped both chances and recorded one final one in the 34' as she was able to make the save on Carr's scoring opportunity.
- Wagner outshot Mount St. Mary's, 9-6, in the first half with both teams putting four attempts on net.
SECOND HALF
- On Wagner's first chance of the second half, sophomore Rebecca Wood, appearing in her first game of the season, stepped into the shot but couldn't put one on goal in the 50'.
- The Seahawks had two chance in the later stages of this contest, as, in the 72nd minute, Carr was able to settle the ball in front and fire off a left-footed strike, but the ball found the arms of Lembryk.
- White sent a shot towards the back right of the net, but a diving stop by Lembryk prevented the Seahawks from getting on the scoreboard with six minutes left in regulation.

- The Seahawks held a 4-2 edge on corner kick chances.
- Mount St. Mary's committed 10 fouls to Wagner's eight.
- The Green & White committed two offsides in tonight's fixture.
- The goalkeeper duo of Hughes and junior Erin Kelly faced 11 shots.
