Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team (4-7-0; 1-3-0 NEC) picked up its first Northeast Conference (NEC) win of the season, defeating Merrimack, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field. The Warriors fall to 2-7-2 overall and 2-2 in league play.
FIRST HALF
- The Green & White withstood early chances from the visitors, as Merrimack fired off four attempts, but was unsuccessful in putting one on target.
- On Wagner's first chance, Carr was able to settle the ball deep in the box and fire off a left-footed strike to give the Seahawks the early 1-0 advantage.
- For Carr, it marked her team-leading sixth goal of the season.
- In the 30', the Warriors had a chance as Molly Murnane was able to put a head on the ball but Wagner junior goalkeeper, Erin Kelly, was there to make the stop.
- The Seahawks had a chance to push their lead before the half as Carr sent the ball that found classmate Isabella Manzella, who headed it high over the net.
- With two minutes left in the first half, Sydney Haskin took the corner kick and crossed the ball into the zone that found the foot of Emma Rogorzenski.
- Rogorzenski in one move put a shot that found the waiting arms of Kelly.
SECOND HALF
- Wagner held control of the contest in the early moments of the second half.
- Three minutes into the stanza, sophomore Kayla Barbosa was able to bend one from the left side, approximately 19 yards out, but her attempt banked off the crossbar.
- Barbosa had a second chance as she took the corner kick from the far right side of the field.
- She was able to send it to the back left post as a leaping Annie White headed past Merrimack's Michele Silva, as Wagner went up 2-0.
- For White, it is her third goal of the year while Barbosa notched her second assist of the season.
- In the 76', Merrimack had a chance to get on the scoreboard, as Rogorzenski found space through a scrum in front of the box that blocked Kelly's sight, but Barbosa was able to step in front of the shot and clear it out.
- The Warriors' next possession gave them another chance for their first tally of the game as Emma Panarella was open on the right side but her shot bounced off the right post.
- Wagner put the game out of reach as freshman Emma Roe was able to complete her run and fire off a shot from the right side that bounced in as the Seahawks increased the lead to 3-0.
- For Roe, it marked her first collegiate goal.
- Panarella put one final opportunity on net for the visitors, but Kelly was able to turn the chance aside in preserving the shutout.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Merrimack outshot Wagner 18-11 and 8-4 on shots on target.
- The Warriors took six corners to Wagner's three.
- Erin Kelly was credited with eight saves in the win while Silva made one stop on the afternoon.
- For Kelly, today's win marked the second clean sheet of the season for the Massapequa, NY native and fourth of her Wagner career.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- With today's victory, the Seahawks even up the all-time series with Merrimack at 1-1-1.

- Wagner heads back on the road, beginning on Thursday, October 7, as the Seahawks will take on the Bryant University Bulldogs in Smithfield, RI before closing out the trip on Sunday, October 10 at Iona.
