Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener on Sunday afternoon, 2-0, against the Sacred Heart University Pioneers at Hameline Field.
Junior goalkeeper
Erin Kelly finished with four saves on the afternoon. Her counterpart, Elyssa Kipperman, was credited with five stops.
Wagner is now 3-5-0; 0-1-0 (NEC) while the Pioneers moved to 3-3-1 and 1-0-0 in league action.

- Wagner will close out the four-game homestand on Thursday, September 23 at 5 p.m. when they will face the Saint Francis University Red Flash in a Northeast Conference matchup.
FIRST HALF
- Sacred Heart scored first in the 24' minute when Grace O'Hara was able to put back the loose ball in the box following a scrum to locate it.
- On the ensuing Wagner position, freshman midfielder, Emma Roe, was able to find some room and boot a chance on target that found the waiting hands of Kipperman.
- Nearly five minutes later, O'Hara struck again for the visitors, putting Sacred Heart ahead, 2-0.
- Desiree Crawford was able to center the ball and send a well-timed pass that found the foot of O'Hara, who was able to put one past Kelly for her second goal of the match.
SECOND HALF
- Roe narrowly put the Seahawks on the board in the early portion of the second half as she blasted a shot from the right side, but Kipperman was able to make the diving stop.
- The Seahawks continued to string together momentum, as Carr blasted one from the point that narrowly went in, but trickled away.
- Roe spotted the loose ball and had a direct chance, but her shot sailed high over the net.
- Wagner had one final chance to get on the board, as Carr raced out and fired an attempt but Kipperman made the stop.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Both teams finished with ten shot attempts for the game, with SHU holding a 6-5 edge on chances on target.
- The Seahawks lost the corner kicks battle, 7-4
- Wagner was whistled for just eight fouls as opposed to Sacred Heart's ten fouls.
- Roe recorded a team-high four shot attempts.
- Carr added two shot attempts and matched Roe with two chances finding its way on target.
SERIES NOTEBOOK
- Wagner is now 4-16-2 all-time against Sacred Heart and is 4-4-1 in their last nine meetings with the Pioneers.
