Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Franklin Sets Record, Field Hockey Falls To Rider On Thursday Afternoon

Lawrenceville, NJ – The Wagner College field hockey team dropped a 6-0 decision at Rider on Thursday afternoon.

The Seahawks stand at 3-3 overall and 3-2 in Northeast Conference (NEC) action while the Broncs move to 4-0 on the year.

Rider was led by reigning NEC Offensive Player of the Year, Julia Divorra, who netted two goals and was credited with two assists on the afternoon. She led the Broncs with 11 shots, six of which on target.

Freshman goalkeeper Erin Franklin set a program record with 16 saves in net for the Green & White.

The first quarter began as a back-and-forth affair with both teams finding opportunities in each other's circle.  Rider earned a trio of penalty corners over the first two minutes but failed to register a shot on net.

Wagner's first opportunity came when Julia Cruces Pastorino fired a shot from the top of the Broncs' circle that went wide of the net.

Rider seized the momentum following Cruces Pastorino's attempt and didn't relinquish control over the stanza. Divorra intercepted the pass and pushed forward by slipping the ball into the bottom right corner of the net for Rider's first goal.

Moments later, a foul in the Wagner circle gave the Broncs a penalty stroke that Brittany Romanczuk cashed in on, giving the home team a 2-0 lead to end the first period.

The Broncs' offense continued to build upon its earlier success. Four minutes into the second, Tess Van Ommeren deflected a ball out of the air and sent it past Franklin, making it 3-0 in Rider's favor.

Franklin came up with a big save that kept the deficit to three. Van Ommeren received a pass in the circle, spun around a Seahawk defender, and found herself against the Swadlincote, England native. Franklin moved swiftly to repel the close-range shot, denying the scoring chance.

Rider earned five penalty corners in the third period, which resulted in nine shots taken and Divorra's second goal of the match. The Broncs tacked on two late tallies in the final period as Romanczuk netted her second goal of the match while Kaitlyn Flemming converted on the penalty stroke.

Wagner was outshot 33-2 in the contest
