Men's Tennis Falls To St. Francis Brooklyn In NEC First Round

West Windsor, NJ – The seventh-seeded Wagner men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 loss to #2 St. Francis Brooklyn in the opening round of the 2021 Northeast Conference (NEC) Men's Tennis Championship Friday morning at the Mercer County Tennis Center. 
 
The Seahawks end the season 0-3. St. Francis Brooklyn, meanwhile, improves to 4-1 and advances to Saturday's semifinal round where they will take on the No. 3 seed, Sacred Heart.  
 
The top seed, Fairleigh Dickinson, will square off against the No. 4 seed, Mount St. Mary's in the other semifinals after the Mountaineers defeated the #5 Saint Francis U, 4-0, on Friday. 
 
The Terriers claimed the match by capturing the doubles point and followed with singles points on four and five. St. Francis Brooklyn won by default in No. 6 singles. 
 
Gustavo Madureira and Miroslav Cvjetan opened the match with a 6-2 victory over Odeda Arazza and Rodrigo Perez at No. 1. No. 2 doubles play went unfinished with the Terriers ahead 5-0. 
 
In singles action, Arazza battled Cvjetan at No. 2 singles, as the two student-athletes went back-and-forth in the first set, with Cvjetan leading 6-5 as the match went unfinished. 
 
Lucas Darling fell to Lars Schneider at No. 4 singles, 6-2; 6-0 while Luis Foix Sotos earned a straight-set victory over Seong Gillespie to claim the victory for St. Francis Brooklyn.
