Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Seahawks Edged At Mount St. Mary's, 1-0

Emmitsburg, MD – The Wagner College women's soccer team (0-4-1; 0-3-1 NEC) nearly got the game-tying goal in the latter stages of Tuesday's match but was edged out by the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers (3-3; 2-3 NEC) at the Waldron Family Stadium.

Hannah Cooksey scored the game's only goal in the 28' minute. Wagner produced 11 shots on the afternoon with seven finding their way on the net but could not find the back of the net.

Reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Defensive Player of the Week Erin Kelly made eight stops. Ari Michitti led the way for the Seahawks with four shots, three of which made their way on the net. Mya Donnelly, Jordyn Price, and Caitlin Filja each had two shots with Donnelly and Filja having two shots go on goal.

Within the last minute of play in regulation, the Seahawks produced four opportunities to get the tying-marker. Michitti blasted a shot that hit the top of the post. Donnelly secured the loose ball and booted on net, but was denied by Mount's goalkeeper, Arden Lembryk. As time was set to expire, Michitti sent one final attempt that was turned aside by Lembryk.

Wagner tested Lembryk early on in the contest, as Filja booted a ball to the left of the goal but Lembryk was able to snag it, keeping Wagner off the scoreboard.

The Mountaineers had their first chance in the match in the 13' as Kalli Belli sent a low-lining shot towards the left that Kelly stopped.

Within ten minutes, Mount was back on the attack as Belli tried again with Kelly was again denying the scoring opportunity, keeping the match scoreless.

In the 20', Mikayla Bates blasted a right-foot shot that found the arms of the Seahawks' second-year netminder.

In the 28', the Mountaineers found the right combination as Hannah Cooksey was able to find the back of the net after receiving the feed from Bell, giving Mount a 1-0 lead and ultimately the match.

Wagner will return to Hameline Field on Friday evening as they will host Bryant for Senior Night, as the Seahawks will recognize their seven seniors before kickoff.
