Hunt And Morales Lead Wagner To Dramatic 84-81 Overtime Victory At St. Francis Brooklyn

Brooklyn, NY – Freshman DeLonnie Hunt scored eight points in the overtime period for the first 20-point game of his collegiate career, while senior Alex Morales added a game-high 25 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Wagner College men's basketball team to an 84-81 overtime victory over St. Francis Brooklyn.

With the victory, the Seahawks earn the sweep over the Terriers after a 74-67 win yesterday and even their conference record at 4-4, while St. Francis Brooklyn falls to 4-5 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.

Tied at 69-69 after regulation, the Terriers took the lead in overtime and held a 76-73 advantage with under two minutes to play in the extra period, before five straight points by Hunt gave the Seahawks a 78-76 lead with 1:15 to play.

From there, freshman Elijah Allen and Morales went 6-6 from the free throw line in the final minute of the game to seal the victory for the Seahawks.

Wagner jumped out to an early lead in the contest, as a 13-0 run helped the Seahawks build their biggest lead of the game at 34-18 with 1:45 to play in the first half on a bucket by senior Will Martinez.

The Terriers fought their way back into the game and took a one-point lead with 5:36 to play in the second half. From there, Hunt scored the next seven Wagner points to help the Green and White re-claim the lead at 59-54 with 4:13 to play.

Shortly after a basket by Morales gave Wagner a 65-62 lead with 2:02 to play, a Larry Moreno three gave the Terriers a 67-66 advantage with 47 seconds to play. From there, Hunt showed his toughness, burying a clutch three to give Wagner the lead, before the Terriers once again tied the game to send it to overtime.

Senior Elijah Ford and Allen were the other two seniors in double figures, scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Scoring 20 points or more for the fourth time in the last five games, Morales shot 7-15 from the field while finishing with the fourth double-double of his career and grabbing eight of his 12 rebounds on the offensive glass. Hunt shot a team-leading 4-7 from long distance, finishing 7-16 overall from the field on the day.

As a team, Wagner held a 42-39 rebounding advantage, including 18 offensive rebounds that resulted in a 21-13 advantage in second chance points.

Next up, the Seahawks are scheduled to take on Fairleigh Dickinson on February 11, with tip-off set for 7:00 pm.
