Women's Tennis Finishes Fall Season With 6-1 Win At Rider

Lawrenceville, NJ - The Wagner College women's tennis team concluded its fall slate of matches on Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks earned a 6-1 victory over Rider.

"I am proud of our team for the way that they went out and competed this afternoon," commented head coach Scott Paz. "We were poised and focused throughout the match. We will build upon this as now we get ready for the spring season."

Wagner (2-2) claimed the first point of the match by taking No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches. The tandem of Gabrielle Perraudin and Tara Dakic moved to 3-0 on the season as they bested Leila Koster and Avery Oppenheim, 6-3, at No. 1 action.  Alegra d'Alessandro and Paula Ysabelle Yu won by default at No. 3.

Yu was awarded the victory at No. 6 by default as Wagner went up 2-0 in the overall match. Perrraudin posted a 6-3; 6-4 triumph over Koster at No. 2, giving the visitors a 3-0 advantage.

Dakic was able to rally in her contest at No. 3 singles against Ally Garofoli. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Dakic recorded a 6-3 winner in the second set to force a third and deciding set. Both athletes rallied at multiple points of the third set, but, in the end, Dakic was able to withstand Garofoli, picking up a 10-8 winner.

Rider's Capucine Thuilot collected the Broncs' lone win of the match, defeating Fidan Kahlilzade, 6-4; 6-3, in another competitive match.

Samantha Lugtu got past Anglica Garcia, 8-3, at No. 4 while d'Alessandro secured an 8-4 winner at No. 5.
