Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College football team took a 10-3 lead midway through the second quarter on a defensive touchdown by Staten Island native
Luke Jakubauskas, but couldn't hang on for the victory, as Bryant pulled away for the 31-10 victory on Saturday at Hameline Field.
The Seahawks took an early 3-0 lead on a 37-yard field goal by freshman
Austin Hosier. The field goal was set up by a special teams turnover, as sophomore
Anthony Thornton recovered a Bryant fumble on a punt, setting Wagner up with great field position.
To start the second quarter with the score knotted up at 3-3, the Seahawk defense came up with their biggest play of the day, as Jakubauskas scooped up a loose ball following a backward pass by the Bulldogs and took it 83 yards for the touchdown, giving the Seahawks the lead.
Overall, Wagner's defense combined for seven tackles for loss and three sacks on the day, as the Seahawks kept the Bulldogs out of the end zone on fourth and one near the goal line to start the second half.
Bryant, however, scored 14 points in the second quarter, seven in the third, and seven in the fourth to earn the victory.
Redshirt senior
Jaalon Frazier led Wagner with 81 yards passing in relief of freshman
Guenson Alexis. Frazier was also Wagner's leading rusher on the day with 34 yards on the ground.
Senior
