Loudonville, NY – The Wagner women's lacrosse team went stride for stride with Siena this afternoon, ultimately dropping the non-conference match-up 11-8 from Hickey Field.
Erin Kerstetter scored a game-high four goals & six points and
Madeline Seims added two goals for the Seahawks. Stephanie Peluso added a goal, and
Kasey Dorney stuffed the stat sheet with a goal, three caused turnovers and a pair of draw controls; Kerstetter added three ground balls and a pair of draw controls of her own.
Lauren DiStefano stopped eight shots in net.
Kaitlyn Dowsett and Mary Soures both had hat tricks for Siena, while Kerry Gerety added a team-high four points. Ally Mervine stopped 11 of Wagner's 19 shots on goal.
How it Happened:
Siena scored less than a minute into play and held the lead until Peluso netted her fifth of the season nearly four minutes later. Gerety and Soures both scored on an ensuing 3-0 Siena spurt, pushing the Saints out to a 4-1 advantage just past the midway point of the opening half.
Dorney and Seims sandwiched goals around a Dowsett score, bringing Wagner within two. Kerstetter, who assisted on Wagner's first two goals, added her first of the day with 90 seconds left in the half, as the Green and White headed to the locker room down just one, 5-4.
The second half turned into one multi-goal run after another. Siena opened the half with three straight goals, pushing its lead back out to four, 8-4. Kerstetter answered with two goals less than a minute apart, bringing Wagner back within two. After Siena responded with another three straight and opened a five-goal lead, Seims and Kerstetter added the final two goals of the day.
Inside the Numbers:
- Wagner out-shot Siena 28-25, marking just the second loss since the start of last season for the Seahawks when finishing with the advantage in total shots.
- Wagner was successful on 17-of-18 clear attempts, giving the Seahawks a successful clear rate of 95 percent (56 for 59) in their last three games
- Kerstetter's big day gave her multiple points in 13 straight games, dating back to last season.
