Seims Paces Dominating Offensive Performance For Wagner In 19-10 Win Over Quinnipiac

Junior matches career-high with six goals

Staten Island, NY Junior Madeline Seims matched her career-high with six goals in leading the Wagner College women's lacrosse team past the Quinnipiac Bobcats, 19-10, this afternoon from Hameline Field.

Joining Seims as part of the Seahawk offensive surge were Megan Drum and Erin Kerstetter as the duo recorded hat-tricks for the second straight game.

Kerstetter, the reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week, added three assists on goals by three different Seahawks, while hustling on the defensive end for five ground balls and 10 draw controls.

Senior Stephanie Falcone along with graduate Audrey Cerrone scored two goals each while combining for six ground balls. Falcone added two helpers while Cerrone notched two ground balls, caused a turnover and earned two draw controls.

In net, Lauren DiStefano played the full sixty, stopping eight shots.

Quinnipiac was paced by Amy Nicoloff, Megan Szawlowski, and Cameron Parry, all of whom found the back-of-the-net twice. DiStefano's counterpart, Allie Kelsey, made 15 saves in just under 54 minutes of action.

Wagner went up by a 3-0 count after goals from Seims, sophomore Kasey Dorney and junior Stefani Peluso. The visiting Bobcats got on the scoreboard at the 25:56 mark. After an apparent Quinnipiac goal was waved off, Seims sparked another trio of goals as the Seahawks went ahead, 6-1, with Falcone and Drum adding scores during the run.

Nearly a minute later, Megan Szawlowski stopped the most recent run, as the visitors trailed, 6-2, but Siems wasn't done as she added two more to her total as Wagner went up by six. Kerstetter kept the rally going with two more as the Green & White pushed the lead to 10-2 before the Bobcats closed out the half with three scores, trimming the deficit to 10-5.

First Half Numbers:
  • Wagner out-shot Quinnipiac 25-10, which included a 22-8 advantage in attempts on goal
  • The Seahawks held a commanding 18-7 lead in ground balls, including four from Kerstetter and Dorney, along with three from Casey Haas.
  • Quinnipiac's two goals were the team's only shots on goal in the first 14:14 of action.
  • Conversely, the Seahawks took 11 that found its way on target over that same time frame.

Seims notched her fifth goal of the contest just 35 seconds into the second half, before Quinnipiac answered back with two goals in 22 seconds, closing the gap to 11-7. Drum responded with two quick goals of her own that were approximately 40 seconds apart. Falcone was credited with the assist on the second goal.  Falcone wasn't done, as she later fed Kerstetter to complete the hat-trick. Moments later, Kerstetter returned the favor, sending the ball that found Falcone's stick as the senior capped the run and upped the lead to 15-7.

Parry rattled in a pair of goals, book-ending a Quinnipiac 3-0 rally as they stayed within striking distance, trailing 15-10, with a little over nine minutes left.

Seims' sixth and final score of the game came as part of Wagner's four consecutive markers, as newcomer Megan Greco sandwiched her first collegiate tally between Cerrone's first two goals of the year.
