West Long Branch, NJ - The Wagner College men's tennis team fell 4-0 on the road to Monmouth University Saturday night.
The Hawks improve to 1-0 overall and the Seahawks drop to 0-2.
After taking the first match, the Green & White pairing of
Siddharth Anand and
Abhinav Magow rallied back in the match but couldn't overtake Sasha Pachnev and Arthur Dussaubat, falling 6-3, in No. 3 play.
In No. 2 doubles, the duo of senior
Dylan Walters and newcomer
Tejasvi Mehra was pitted against Gabriel Busato and Will Cooke Wharton. Walters and Mehra gave all they had in the match, but were edged 6-4 as Monmouth went ahead 1-0.
The host Hawks went up 2-0 after a straight-set win at No. 5 singles as
Mohammed Hussain fell to Austin Klapman. Dussaubat bested Anand, 6-2; 6-2 at No. 6 and while Sergio Martinez clinched the match for Monmouth, defeated newcomer
Omar Loutfy, 6-3; 6-1, in No. 4 singles.
The Seahawks will play a pair of matches this upcoming weekend, as they take on St. Francis Brooklyn on Friday morning for their Northeast Conference (NEC) opener before squaring off against Division II members, Staten Island (CSI), on Sunday, February 9.
