Box Score

Staten Island, NY –
Madeline Seims poured in a career-high six goals while fellow sophomore midfielder Erin Kerstetter collected a program-record 14 draw controls as the Wagner women's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-7 win over Robert Morris in the Northeast Conference (NEC) opener for both teams, each of whom entered today's play with matching 7-2 records.

In addition to her staggering program-best 14 draw controls, the majority of which she swooped in to pluck out of mid-air, the speedy and scrappy Kertstetter added two goals, three ground balls and three caused turnovers for good measure.Seims and her Kerstetter are now tied for the team lead in scoring with 29 points apiece. With her 63 draw controls on the season, Kerstetter is already up to second place on the Seahawk all-time single-season list in this category.

In recording today's victory, which came in bone-chilling and wet conditions at Hameline Field, the defending NEC-champion Seahawks have now won seven straight, tying the 2014 and 2016 teams for Wagner's longest winning streak ever. In addition to giving the Seahawks a 1-0 NEC mark, the win also improves Wagner's overall record to 8-2, which marks the Seahawks' best start to a season in program history. In defeat, the Colonials fall to 7-3 and 0-1 in league.

In Sunday's home contest vs. Saint Francis U, the Green & White will look to claim the outright school-record winning streak of eight, while also seeking to extend the program's best-ever season start.

Today's game was tight at the outset before the Seahawks broke open a 4-3 game by closing the first half on a 5-0 run, with three straight coming from Seims, in taking a commanding 9-3 bulge at the intermission.
The Green & White continued to click on all cylinders in all phases following the break, scoring four of the first five goals after halftime, in building a 13-4 lead midway through the second stanza. During a 2:25 stretch late in the game, Seims exploded for her second personal three-consecutive goal outburst.

While Seims' double-hat trick dominated the scoring, there were plenty of other superlatives supplied by the Seahawks on this day as Wagner received four or more points from four different players, in freshman midfielder Kasey Dorney (3g, 2a), junior attack Stephanie Falcone (3g, 1a), sophomore midfielder Victoria Tucci (1g, 3a), and sophomore attack Stefani Peluso (1g, 3a).
Defensively, the senior tandem of Maggie Jent and Maddie Courtney combined for seven caused turnovers, with Jent finishing with four, and Courtney three.

Team-wise, Wagner dominated statistically across the board, none more so than in the draw control category where Kerstetter's 14 DC's powered the Seahawks to a 21-3 advantage. The Green & White also held the upper hand in shots (43-19) and ground balls (33-26).

The ball spent so much time on Wagner's offensive end that senior goalie Kelsey Fee faced just 11 shots on goal while finishing with four saves.

Senior attack Megan Drum rounded out Wagner's 26-point explosion with one goal in what amounted to a 17-goal, nine-assist team effort.
