Box Score

Emmitsburg, MD – In a showdown between two of the nation's hottest teams, Mount St. Mary's extended its winning streak to eight games with an 11-9 victory over Wagner, a result that ended the Seahawks' program-record eight-game winning streak,

The Mount improves to 11-2 on the season and 3-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play while Wagner, which suffered its first loss since February 19, falls to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in conference.

In hanging on for the win, Mount St. Mary's was forced to overcome a career-tying six-goal performance from sophomore midfielder Madeline Seims, who added an assist to make it a seven-point day. Five of Seims' six scores came on free-position attempts. Freshman midfielder Kasey Dorney (2g) and sophomore attacker Stefani Peluso (1g, 1a) also finished with multi-point games for the Seahawks.

In goal, redshirt senior Kelsey Fee stopped six shots between the pipes.

After falling behind by an early 5-0 count, Wagner got on the board at the 13:26 mark as Dorney found the back of the net off an assist from junior attacker Stephanie Falcone. Seims then scored two of the final three goals of the half to cut the Wagner deficit in half, as the Mount took a 6-3 lead at the break.

After MSM's Carly Miller opened the second-half scoring, Wagner reeled off three straight goals during an electric 2:27 span to pull within just one, 7-6, at the 23:15 mark. Dorney got the run started, finding the back of the net off a Seims feed with 25:42 remaining.

On the Seahawks' ensuing possession, Peluso shook free for an unassisted tally with 24:35 to go, to make it a 7-5 game, before a Seims free position goal with 23:15 to go drew the Seahawks to within that 7-6 count.

This is as close as the score would get, however, as the Mountaineers countered with three consecutive goals of their own, including the final two from Beanie Colson, to push the advantage back to 10-6 with 19:38 left.

Following a scoreless stretch of more than eight minutes, Seims recorded back-to-back free-position goals to trim the Mount lead to 10-8 with 10:23 left. Just over two minutes later, Mount's Jordan Groover stretched the lead back to three on her second goal of the game.

Seims was able to bury her sixth goal of the contest on yet another free position opportunity with 2:39 left, but this proved to be the game's final score as the Mountaineers were able to hold on for the 11-9 win.

Groover paced Mount St. Mary's on the day with a team-high four points on two goals and a pair of assists, to go along with a team-best six draw controls. Alayna Pagnotta (3g) and Jordan Butler (1g, 2a) added three points apiece, while Colson (2g) and Miller (1g, 1a) each tallied two.

Jillian Petito made 11 saves and picked up five ground balls to earn her 11th victory of the season in goal.

Wagner will now travel to Smithfield, RI for a matchup at Bryant on Thursday, April 18, before returning to Hameline Field to host Central Connecticut State on Saturday, April 20.
