In what proved to be a wire-to-wire win, the Seahawks jumped out to a 10-0 lead but had to fight off the Flyers' rally, as Del Ponte led the way with seven RBIs.
The Seahawks struck first on an RBI double by Del Ponte that scored juniors
Kaila Smith and
Hannah Lewis to make it 2-0 early on.
Wagner then added five in the second on RBI singles by Lewis, junior
Amelia Van Orman, and Del Ponte, as well as a walk with the bases loaded by junior
Alyssa Tucker.
With the bases loaded once again in the third, Del Ponte came through yet again, this time hitting a bases-clearing double that made it 10-0 in favor of the Seahawks after 2.5 innings.
The Flyers scored seven unanswered runs to make it 10-7 after four innings, but Wagner answered in the fifth.
An RBI base hit by Smith and a sac fly by Del Ponte extended the Wagner lead, but Dayton's three runs in the bottom half of the inning made it 12-10 as the Flyers inched closer.
Following a scoreless sixth, another RBI double by Smith gave Wagner an insurance run, which proved to be crucial, as the Flyers scored two runs in the seventh.
With the game on the line, Van Orman shut the door, forcing Dayton's Abby Ehrenborg to ground out to end the inning.
The teams combined for 26 hits, with Wagner holding a 14-12 advantage. Del Ponte and Lewis had three hits apiece, while Smith and senior
