New Britain, CT – Trailing 4-1 after four innings, the Wagner College baseball team scored twice to get within 6-3 before Central Connecticut staged a four-run bottom of the eighth en route to a 10-3 win over the Seahawks in a rained-soaked series finale on Sunday morning..

With the loss, the Green & White falls to 7-16 overall while the Blue Devils improve to 10-9. Both teams now stand at 3-3 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play.

Wagner, who belted 11 base hits in the contest, got two hits apiece from senior 3B Will Johnson, junior RF Griffin Schneider and sophomore catcher, Brandon Hall, as the trio combined to go 6-for-13 with two runs scored.

Senior CF Joe Silvestrone was one of three Seahawks to record an RBI in today's contest, as did junior 1B Tyler Sanfillippo and sophomore SS Mike Ruggiero. Junior starter, McCae Allen, was tagged with the loss after going 3.2 innings in allowing four runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four.

Chandler Debrosse and Dave Matthew each drove in three RBIs, with Debrosse tallying a team-leading three hits in propelling the Blue Devils to victory. Debrosse, Buddy Dewaine, and Jack Nolan scored twice.  Mike Appel earned his third win of the season.

The Blue Devils struck for the game's first runs in the bottom of the second in taking a 2-0 lead. Dewaine led off CCSU's second inning with a ground-rule double to center field and moved up to third on an Allen wild pitch. Jake Siracusa sent a one-out double to left center, plating home Dewaine to give the Blue Devils the early 1-0 lead. Following a strikeout of Nolan, Jay Devito singled to right, scoring Siracusa for the second run of the stanza.

Wagner cut the deficit in half, 2-1, in the top of the fourth, as Sanfillippo sent a one-out triple to right center field, scoring Schneider, who led off the frame with a double to left field.  The home team added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring twice in bringing the lead to 4-1.

With two outs in the top of the fifth, Wagner inched closer, as Silvestrone belted his third home run of the season, cutting the Blue Devils' lead to 4-2. For the Manalapan, NJ native, it marked his seventh career home run and his fourth round tripper in conference games.  The Blue Devils responded in the bottom half of the inning, extending their lead to 5-2 as Siracusa drove in his second RBI of the contest on a sacrifice fly to right field that brought in Dewaine.

The Seahawks furthered their comeback attempt by scoring in the top of the sixth as Ruggiero delivered a two-out RBI double to right center field that scored Hall which drew Wagner within two runs at 5-3.

Sophomore Nick LePre came on for Justin Beyer in the bottom of the sixth. LePre allowed a leadoff single to Devito but got help from his defense, as Matt Bertochi grounded into the 5-4-3 double play. LePre couldn't get out of the frame unscathed, however, as Debrosse homered to left field, which doubled CCSU's lead to 6-3.

Following a scoreless seventh, the Blue Devils put up a four-spot in the bottom of the eighth which increased their lead to 10-3, with the Debrosse driving in his third RBI of the game and Matthew connecting on a three-run home run to center.

In the ninth, the Seahawks managed to get two runners on with two outs but Schneider sent a dribbler to second, as Debrosse went to the second base bag for the final out of the game.

The Green & White will be back in action on Wednesday, April 3, as they make the short trek to Piscataway, NJ to take on Big Ten members, Rutgers, at Bainton Field. First pitch between the Seahawks and the Scarlet Knights is slated for 3:00 p.m.
