Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College softball team earned a 4-0 win over Mount St. Mary's in the second game of Saturday's Northeast Conference (NEC) opener for both teams in earning a split of today's doubleheader as as the Mount took game one by a score of 10-2.
In addition to moving each team to 1-1 in conference play, Wagner improves to 4-2 at home on the year.
Senior
Karen Prihoda inched closer to becoming the third Seahawk with 200 career base hits, combining for three hits on the day. Prihoda now sits at 198 hits for her career.
Game 2 Recap: Wagner 4, Mount St. Mary's 0
The Seahawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning and never looked back. After sophomore
Alexis Silinonte was hit by a pitch, Prihoda reached on an error to put two runners on base for Wagner.
Senior
Lauren Serrato came through, scoring both Silinonte and Prihoda with an RBI double to left field. Next up, junior
Amelia Van Orman extended the lead with a single to center, which scored Serrato and made it 3-0 in favor of the Seahawks. Wagner added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth on a pinch hit RBI single by junior
Kyleigh Norris.
Once again, the Seahawks made fantastic defensive plays to keep runs off the board in game two. After the Mount loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, freshman
Kayla Hooks struck out Emilee Kirk and forced catcher Jessica Nines to pop up to second in ending the threat.
In the seventh, the Mountaineers threatened again with two runners in scoring position and no outs, but junior
Hannah Lewis made a tremendous diving grab in left field and doubled off Mount's Kate Wade to keep the Mountaineers off the scoreboard for good.
Hooks struck out four and gave up eight hits while tossing the first complete game shutout of her career and earning her third victory of the season.
The Seahawks combined for seven hits, as Lewis was the lone Seahawk with multiple hits in the contest.

In a tight game early on, the Seahawks took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. An RBI single by Van Orman scored Prihoda, while junior
Kaila Smith followed with a double to center field to give Wagner the lead.
The Mount tied the game in the third and earned the victory with an eight-run fifth inning.
Prihoda led the Green & Whie with two hits, while Serrato, Van Orman, Smith, and Lewis also recorded hits in the contest.
Senior
Ciera Luna was charged with the loss, while freshman
Eve Harvey also saw action in relief.
Next up, the Wagner will travel to Stony Brook for a single non-conference game on Tuesday, with first pitch between the Seahawks and the Seawolves set for 2 pm.
