Brooklyn, NY – The Wagner College women's tennis team completed the regular season of the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, defeating their Northeast Conference (NEC) rival, 4-1, on Saturday evening.

With the victory, the Seahawks improve to 4-6 on the season and move to 2-0 in conference matches while the Terriers fall to 2-7 and 0-3 in league tilts.

Wagner took quick advantage in the three doubles matches in securing the first point of the match, as the tandem of team captains junior Vedika Anand and Rina Baynes blanked Runsi Patro and Ana Orozco, 6-0, at the No. 1 position.

At No. 2 doubles, the freshman duo of Samantha Lugtu and Emma Reeves earned a 6-2 victory over Jean-Na Koo and Martina Radinovic. In a back-and-forth match at No. 3, newcomers Alegra D'Alessandro and Diana Pinzariu were able to edge out the pairing of Sandra Siles Polo and Shiela Cetina, 7-5.

The Green & White kept the momentum rolling into singles, as Baynes earned a 6-0; 6-3 win over Siles Polo at No. 3 followed by 6-2; 6-1 triumph by Lugtu over Radinovic, which increased Wagner's lead to 3-0.

For Baynes, it gave her career singles win No. 25, which puts her into third-place all-time on the career singles wins list, trailing Madison Pautsch (2013-17), who posted 29 career wins and Brittany Frazza (2005-09), who earned 28 wins. Lugtu earned her seventh career victory with the win at No. 4.

(*Note: The all-time career wins list dates back to the 2005, whereas the Northeast Conference started keeping track of dual match wins*).

The Seahawks earned its fourth and deciding victory at No. 2, as sophomore Fidan Khalilzade secured a 6-3; 7-6 (6-2) victory over Patro. St. Francis Brooklyn was victorious at No. 1 as Koo outlasted Anand, 6-2; 5-7; 10-2.

Wagner will look for its third conference victory of the season as they will travel to Teaneck, NJ to tangle with the Fairleigh Dickinson University Knights on March 21.
