Staten Island, NY – The Wagner College football team will return to Hameline Field for another Northeast Conference (NEC) battle, as the Seahawks will host #19 Central Connecticut at noon on Saturday. Wagner is coming off a tight, 28-24 loss to Duquesne, while the Blue Devils enter the weekend with a 3-0 conference record and 7-1 overall mark.
Gill Makes History
With a sack-fumble in the second quarter of Saturday's game against Duquesne, senior outside linebacker
Cam Gill became the Northeast Conference's All-Time sack leader. Gill improved to 31 career sacks, overtaking Duquesne's Christian Kuntz, who accumulated 30.5 sacks throughout his career, as the conference's all-time leader.
Hat-Trick For Alexander-Stevens
Graduate student quarterback
Christian Alexander-Stevens scored three rushing touchdowns against the Dukes. On the season, the Seahawk signal caller has five rushing scores to go along with six touchdowns through the air.
Close Calls
In a tight Northeast Conference race, Wagner's last three games have all come down to the last possession. On the season, the Seahawks' loss to Florida Atlantic is the only game that was decided by more than two possessions.
Scouting The Blue Devils
Central Connecticut is ranked 19th in both major national FCS polls. The Blue Devils are still undefeated against FCS competition on the year, with their only loss this year coming against FBS member Eastern Michigan.
The Series
Saturday's game marks the 32nd all-time meeting between these schools and Wagner holds a 16-15 edge in the series, having seen its five-game winning streak over CCSU snapped in a wild 51-45, four-overtime thriller on Staten Island two years ago. Last season, Wagner jumped out to an early 14-0 lead on a pair of touchdown returns, a 36-yard fumble recovery by defensive lineman
Charbel Dabire, followed by a 30-yard interception return by outside linebacker Titis Leo, before Central Connecticut clawed its way back for a 49-24 win at rainy, wind-swept Arute Field.
Next Up For Wagner
Following this weekend's contest, the Seahawks will travel to Sacred Heart for a noon kickoff on Saturday, November 9.
