Newark, NJ – The Wagner College men's tennis team opened its 2019 spring season at the NJIT Winter Invitational, as the Seahawks registered six wins on the opening day of the two-day invitational tournament held at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
The Seahawk senior tandem of
Eric Poland and
Ilya Kneppelhout defeated Hofstra's Coco Haener and Shawn Jackson, 6-4, at second doubles.
Wagner graduate transfer
Lucas Gonzalez and junior
Dylan Walters bested Bucknell's Max Garramone and Alex Pedrazzini, 6-3, at third doubles.
Senior
Anatoliy Lashkul earned a 6-3; 6-3 win over NJIT's Tomi Antoljak in first singles while junior
Siddharth Anand defeated Bucknell's, Ryan Jurist, 6-3; 6-4, in sixth singles of round one.
In singles round two, second singles, Walters was victorious over Bucknell's, Marwan Abaza, 4-6; 6-3; 10-8. Additionally, in fifth singles, junior
Hans Ohrner got past Jurist, 6-1; 4-6; 10-7.
The NJIT Invitational will continue on Sunday at 9:00 a.m.
