Lucy Darlington, the reigning NEC Defense Player of the Week, came up with five saves for the Seahawks in a contest that was originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday, but was pushed back one day to the snowstorm that struck the New York City metropolitan area.
Alliegro scored the first two goals of the game and had a hat trick by halftime in helping the Seahawks race out to a 6-2 lead at the break. Stetson, however, opened the second half with three unanswered goals, the last two from Jaclynn Levy, to make it a 6-5 game.
Wagner outscored Stetson 3-2 over the next nine minutes, with two coming of free position shots from Ednie and a third on a Kerstetter free position with 2:39 left, in taking a two-goal lead at 9-7.
The Hatters responded with two goals, both by Taylor Patrizi, the first at the 1:43 mark off a Hallie Merz assist, and the next one on a free position with 55 seconds left in tying the game and forcing overtime.
Just over one minute into overtime, Alliegro was fouled while aggressively sprinting into scoring range, and the freshman midfielder, and the freshman midfielder was able to convert the free position, setting off a wild Seahawk victory celebration.
For Alliegro, today's four-goal effort comes on the heels of a career-high five-goal game in last Saturday's 15-11 victory over Lehigh. The Bayport, NY native leads Wagner in goals with 12, and along with three assists, is the Seahawks' team-leader in points with 15. Ednie is second on the team in scoring with 13 points, all of which have come on a team-best 13 goals.
Stetson won the draw-control battle, 13-8, in a physical contest that featured five cards combined between the teams.
Today's tilt with Stetson concludes a four-game home stretch for the Green & White who take the road next to meet UMass Lowell on Sunday, March 11 in a 1:00 p.m. start.
