2018 Fordham Quad Results
Bronx, NY – The Wagner College men's tennis team concluded their fall season by participating at the 2018 Fordham Quad tournament, that featured the host Rams, Hofstra and St. Francis Brooklyn at the Hawthorn Rooney Courts.
Senior
Eric Poland captured the men's "B" singles crown while fellow classmate
Dale Sandy and junior
Siddharth Anand will square off for the "C" singles championship at a later date since they are from the same competing school.
Men's Singles "A" Bracket:
Senior
Anatoliy Lashkul was edged out of the in quarterfinals, falling to Fordham's Fabian Mauritzson, 6-4; 6-2.
Junior
Dylan Walters earned a 6-3; 6-1 triumph over fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) rival, St. Francis Brooklyn's Stefan Gmijovic to advance to the semifinals. Walters put forth a valiant effort in the semifinals before falling to Fordham's Max Green, 3-6; 6-3, 1- (6-0).
Men's Singles "B" Bracket:
Senior
Ilya Kneppelhout was ousted in the quarterfinals by Hofstra's, Shawn Jackson, 6-2; 6-3.
Poland was able to get past his quarterfinal opponent, St. Francis Brooklyn's Pablo Blasco-Torres, 6-3; 6-1. In the semifinals, the fourth-year Seahawk earned a 6-1; 6-1 victory over Hofstra's Ryan Hardin to move into the championship round, where he would meet Fordham's Lutwin de Macar.
In the finals of the "B" bracket, Poland dropped the first set, 7-5, but rallied in the second to even the match, after securing a 6-1 victory. In the third and deciding set, Poland was blanked de Macar, 7-0, to earn the title of the "B" bracket.
Men's Singles "C" Bracket:
Sandy and Anand represented the Seahawks in the "C" bracket. Sandy and Anand each received byes in the Round-of-16. In the quarterfinals, Sandy bested Fordham's Steven Duka, 6-2; 6-0 while Anand earned a straight set triumph over Fordham's Allen Thornes, 6-0; 6-0.
In the semifinals, Sandy was victorious over Fordham's Jeremy Chung, 6-2; 3-6; 1-0 (10-0) while Anand picked up a 6-1; 6-3 win over Jofre Segarra, 6-1; 6-3, setting up an all-Wagner finale, which will take place at a later time.
Consolation Singles:
Kneppelhout squared off against St. Francis Brooklyn's, Guillermo Artiz, in the consolation bracket. After dropping the first set, 3-6, Kneppelhout earned a 7-6 (7-4) decision to even the match before falling in the final set, 1-0 (10-8).
Doubles Bracket:
Lashkul and Poland were paired off together in the Round-of-16, claiming a 6-4 win over Fordham's Gabriel Mashaal and Allen Thornes.
Kneppelhout and Anand were victorious over Fordham's, Alex Makatsaria and Lutwin de Macar, 6-4. Walters and Sandy received a bye in the Round-of-16.
In the quarterfinals, Lashkul and Poland were defeated, 6-1, by the duo of Finn Kemper and Max Green of Fordham. Walters and Sandy picked up a 6-1 win over Jofre Segarra and Steven Duka to advance in the bracket.
Kneppelhout and Anand nearly came away with the win but were upended by Jan Leithner and Marcus Smith of Hofstra, 6-4 in the semifinals.
In the second semifinal match, Walters/Sandy so their tournament run come to a halt, falling to Kemper and Green, 7-5. Leithner and Smith of Hofstra were crowned champions after defeating Kemper and Green, 6-0.
The 2018 Fordham Quad marked the conclusion of Wagner's fall schedule. The Seahawks will return to the courts for the two-day NJIT Winter Invitational, which will commence on January 26-through-January 27.
