Khalilzade and Kolasinac Named Student-Athletes of the Month

Staten Island, NY – Sophomore Fidan Khalilzade of the Wagner women's tennis team and Jasmin Kolasinac of the men's water polo team have been named the Seahawk Student-Athletes of the Month for October.

For the month of October, Khalilzade, posted a 3-1 singles record to go along with 1-1 doubles record as the Seahawks finished dual match play in the fall with a 3-2 overall record and 1-0 in league matches.  Playing primarily out of the No. 1 spot, Khalilzade earned a 7-6 (7-2), 5-7, 10-5 win over Monmouth's Alexandra Graff (10/2), in helping Wagner shutout the Hawks, 7-0.  In the home opener against the University of California Irvine, the native of Baku, Azerbaijan needed three sets to get past the Anteaters' Stephanie Nguyen, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 in the Seahawks lone point of the overall match back on October 5. Khalilizade recorded her third straight singles victory against Fairfield back on October 6 after another third set triumph (6-4, 4-6, 10-6) over Diana Prinos. For her young Seahawk career, she has posted an overall record of 10-7 while going to 4-1 out of the No. 1 spot. Additionally, she capped her month with being named an NEC Prime Performer for the month on October 30.

Sophomore driver Jasmin Kolasinac helped lead the Seahawks to a 6-2 record in Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play in the month of October. Kolasinac tallied seven goals against La Salle (10/28), as well as registering a season-high eight goals against Johns Hopkins (10/27), helping the Green & White to two victories at the Spiro Sports Center against league foes. Thanks largely to Kolasinac's offensive prowess, the Seahawks currently boast a four-game win streak heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The sophomore scored three or more goals in eight matches in October alone against La Salle (2), Johns Hopkins, Fordham, Harvard, Brown, Iona, and Bucknell. The Belgrade, Serbia native ranks second in NCAA Division I in goals with 84 on the year. Additionally, he has 96 points, 88 drawn exclusions, 49 blocks and 13 blocks to his credit.
