Moon Township, PA – Junior attackman
Andrew Streilein (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Lenape) poured in a career-high four goals but the Wagner men's lacrosse team was unable to climb out of an early deficit in falling at Northeast Conference (NEC)-leading Robert Morris 17-6 this afternoon.
Streilein's four-goal outburst bettered his previous single-game best by one goal as he entered today's play with seven career hat tricks to his credit.
With the loss, the Seahawks remain one victory shy of the program-record six wins achieved last season as the Green & White fall to 5-7 overall, 0-3 in NEC play. In winning their fourth consecutive game, the Colonials improve to 8-3 overall and remain perfect in league play with a 4-0 NEC mark.
After RMU stormed out to an 8-1 late first-quarter lead, the Seahawks struck for a pair of goals in a 19-second span, the first from Streilein off an assist from junior midfielder
Nick Warren (Granby, CT / Granby Memorial / Mount St. Mary's) which was followed by an unassisted tally from sophomore defenseman
Riley Owens (Silver Spring, MD / St. Johns College High School), which made it an 8-3 lead after one quarter.
This was as close as Wagner would get however, as the Colonials notched five unanswered second-quarter goals in stretching their lead to 13-3 at halftime. The Seahawks' best quarter was the fourth as the Green & White outscored RMU 3-1 in the final stanza with all three goals coming out of the stick of Streilein. Junior defenseman
Evan Clark (Vaughan, Ontario / The Hill Academy) also found the back of the net for the Seahawks.
Junior goalie
Matt Sefcik (Towaco, NJ / Morristown Beard) recorded a career-high 18 saves while playing the game's first 50:58 before giving way to sophomore
Omar Alhagiko (Staten Island, NY / Curtis).
Matt Schmidt paced RMU with six goals, while Adrian Torok-Orban added two to lead a balanced offensive day as 11 different players scored at least one goal for the Colonials. Alex Heger, one of three goalies used by the Colonials on the afternoon, came up with three saves in garnering the win.
Wagner is next in action on Saturday, April 15 when they play host to Mount St. Mary's at Hameline Field. Faceoff between the Seahawks and the Mountaineers is set for 1:00 p.m.
