Bridgeport, CT – After trading runs from the third inning on, the Wagner College baseball team was able to score the game-winner in the top half of the seventh inning in securing a 4-3 victory over the Sacred Heart University Pioneers in game one of Sunday's Northeast Conference (NEC) doubleheader.

With the victory, the Seahawks, who have won six of their last seven games, improve to 12-18 and 4-5 in league play while the Pioneers, who have dropped three of their last four games, stand at 5-6 in conference contests and 12-25 overall.

Freshman designated hitter Freddy Sabido (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner [Saint Louis Univ.]) and sophomore CF Joe Silvestrone (Manalapan, NJ/Freehold Township) each had two hits on the afternoon while sophomore 3B Anthony Pecora (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) went 1-for-3 with his first home run of the season. Junior SS Sean Mazzio (West Chester, PA/Salesianum School [DE]), junior LF Anthony Godino (Thornwood, NY/Pleasantville) and sophomore catcher Phil Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) each had an RBI in the contest.

On the hill, senior co-captain, RHP Danny Marsh (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) posted his second complete game of the year, going the full seven innings, striking out a career-high nine batters while giving up seven hits, three earned runs and three walks.

Sacred Heart's Austin Markmann led the way for the home team with two hits and an RBI. Ted Shaw and Jake Frair were also credited with RBIs. SHU starter Brent Teller went five innings, surrendering five hits and two earned runs without walking a batter and striking out one. Mike Lembo took the loss after allowing the eventual game-winning run while walking two and striking out a batter.

After two scoreless innings, Wagner scored the game's first run in the top of the third inning. Junior 2B Kyle Brey (Middletown, NJ/Middletown South) ripped a 1-0 pitch to center field for a leadoff single. He was moved into scoring position after Mazzio executed a sacrifice bunt, that was fielded by the catcher.

Sabido sent a screamer down the right field line that was snagged by SHU first baseman, Keith Klebart, who beat Sabdio to the bag for the second out of the frame. Godino stepped into the batter's box and had the count in his favor at 2-1 before sending a single to center, which scored Brey for the game's first run.

Sacred Heart knotted the contest at 1-1 in their half of the third. Alex Perry reached on a single to third base and advanced to second as Elijah Brown laid down a sac bunt that was fielded by Pecora for the first out of the inning.

With the count full, Shaw then sent a single back up-the-middle, scoring Perry from second while moving up on the throw home. The Pioneers got a second straight hit from Anthony Capozziello which gave the home team runners on the corners with just one out.  Marsh was able to bear down on the rubber and get Klebart to pop out to second before getting PJ DeFilippo to fly out to center, ending the scoring threat.

The Pioneers went ahead in the bottom of the fourth as Markmann homered to left field on a 2-1 pitch from Marsh, giving Sacred Heart a 2-1 lead. Dan Schock drew a six-pitch walk and promptly stole second in what had the makings of a big inning.  Marsh was able to strand Schock at second by retiring the next three Pioneers batters, all via strikeouts, keeping the game close at a one-run deficit.

Freshman 1B Nick D'Amore (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) led off the Wagner fifth inning with a double to left center after seeing an eight-pitch sequence from Teller, in which he fouled off his last four pitches. Brey moved D'Amore over to third on a sacrifice bunt that was fielded by the Pioneers' backstop. The Seahawks tied the game at 2-2 as Mazzio sent a grounder to short, allowing D'Amore to cross the plate for the tying score.

Wagner regained the lead in the top of the sixth. After Capra grounded out and Cala lined out to left field, Pecora took the Pioneers reliever, Jackson Aldam's 1-0 pitch over the deepest part of the left center field for his first home run of the season, giving the Green & White a 3-2 edge.

In the bottom of the sixth, SHU tied the game up at 3-3. DeFilippo led off with a single through the left side. After Marsh recorded his seventh and eighth strikeouts of the ballgame, Friar laced a 1-2 pitch down the left field line, scored DeFilippo all the way from first, knotting the game at 3-3.

In the Seahawks' half of the seventh, Mazzio drew a one-out walk. Sabido added his second hit of the afternoon, a single through the right side, which moved Mazzio to second. Godino drew an eight-pitch free pass, loading the bases for Capra. On an 0-1 pitch from Lembo, Capra lofted the ball to right field as Mazzio tagged up on the play and scored the go-ahead tally, giving the visitors a 4-3 lead.

Brown walked to kick off the bottom of the seventh and moved into scoring position as Shaw sent a sacrifice bunt up the third base line. Brown moved up ninety feet on a wild pitch with one out. Marsh was able to fan Capozziello for his ninth punchout of the game and then secured his fourth win of the season when Klebart flied out to Godino giving Wagner the victory.
