Men's Tennis Drops A Pair Of Non-Conference Tilts On Sunday Afternoon

Harrison, NY - The Wagner men's tennis team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Sunday afternoon, falling to Atlantic 10 member Fordham,3-2, and Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) member Marist, 5-0.

With the defeats, the Seahawks fall to 6-3 overall on the season while the Rams improve to 3-2 and the Red Foxes stand at 3-1. 

Wagner-Fordham Recap:
The Seahawks secured the first point of the match in the lone doubles contest, as junior Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) and sophomore Ilya Kneppelhout (Woubrugge, Netherlands / Scala College Secondary School) earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory. 

The Rams took a 2-1 advantage when Tomas Cosmai defeated sophomore Anatoliy Lashkul (Kiev, Ukraine / High School #78), 6-4; 6-2. Victor Li edged sophomore Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa / Kersney College Secondary School) 6-7 (5); 7-5; 6-2 in No. 2 play. 

The Green & White evened the match at 2-2, as newcomer Dylan Walters (Johannesburg, South Africa / St Stithians Boys' College) improved to 2-1 in his young career, defeating Fabian Mauritzon; 6-4; 6-1. Fordham clinched the victory at No. 4 as Nick Borak withstood a spirited match with freshman Siddharth Anand (New Delhi, India / Modern School Barakhamba Road).

Wagner-Marist Recap:
The Red Foxes was able to withstand a highly competitive contest with the Seahawks. 

Marist clinched the doubles point as Rudolf Kurz/Christopher Gladden defeated Sandy/Lashkul, 7-5; 6-1. 

In singles play, freshman Hans Ohrner (Margate, FL / Coral Springs Christian Academy) fell to Javier Restrepo, 6-3; 6-2. In the final match of the day, sophomore Eric Poland's (Fort Meyers, FL/Bishop Verot) back-and-forth battle with Dylan Fletcher result in a tie-breaker set, as Fletcher was able to just get past Poland, 7-6 (7-3). 

The Seahawks return to the courts on February 24 and February 26 as they travel to Philadelphia, PA for a pair of contests in the "City of Brotherly Love." First, they open with the Temple University Owls and conclude the trip at Drexel University.
