Staten Island, NY – Reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Player of the Week
Ryan Fulse (Fort Meade, FL / Fort Meade/Monroe) ran for 152 yards on 22 carries with one touchdown and Wagner's defense limited Robert Morris to 210 total yards while recording eight sacks, as the Seahawks earned a 27-7 Senior Day win over Robert Morris today at Hameline Field.
Fulse, who rushed for a career-high 228 yards last week against Bryant, has now gained 380 yards in his last two games, which leaves the 5-11, 195-pound sparkplug just seven yards shy of a 1,000-yard season heading into next Saturday's non-conference tilt at Stony Brook.
With the victory, the Green & White improves to 3-6 on the season, 1-4 in NEC play, while the Colonials fall to 2-7 overall, 0-4 in league.
Fulse got things started early this afternoon when he bounced an inside handoff to outside, and raced 65 yards untouched, skirting the right sideline in the process, for the game's first score.
On RMU's ensuing possession, sophomore linebacker
Cameron Gill (Douglasville, GA / Chapel Hill) recorded a strip-sack of quarterback Mathew Barr, which was recovered by redshirt-junior defensive lineman
Maurice Diawara (Lakewood, NJ / Lakewood) at the Colonials' 27-yard line.
The turnover led to the first of graduate student
James Cooper's two first-half field goals, a 36-yard boot with 5:21 left in the opening quarter that extended the Seahawk lead to 10-0.
After senior linebacker
Mathieu Louiselle (Quebec, Canada / Vermont Academy) recorded his first of two sacks on the day, Wagner received another field goal by Cooper, this one from 39 yards out, with 1:19 to play in the first period which made it a 13-0 game.
That's the way the score remaining until late in the first half when redshirt-junior cornerback
Malik Warner (Brooklyn, NY / Bishop Ford/ASA Junior College) stepped in front of a Barr pass on an out route near the right sideline for his second interception of the season. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on the Seahawks during the return, gave Wagner a first down at the RMU 47.
On the very next play, junior quarterback
Luke Massei (Cary, NC / Green Hope) lofted a pass to wide receiver
John Williams (Sewell, NJ / Washington Town-ship/Lackawanna CC), who had gotten loose behind the RMU secondary. The 6-6 senior gathered the ball in at the Colonials' 18-yard line and raced in for the score, catapulting the Seahawks to a commanding 20-0 lead at halftime.
Midway through the third quarter, Massei dialed up his second TD pass of the game, a 23-yard strike to junior tight end
Chris Woodard (North Tonawanda, NY / North Tonawanda), which extended the Wagner lead to 27-0 with 6:24 remaining in the period.
Robert Morris notched its lone score of the game with 5:58 left to play when Barr tossed a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dalton Elliott to fashion the final score at 27-7.
Redshirt-junior running back
Denzel Knight added 55 yards on 11 carries for the Green & White while Massei was asked to throw the ball just 12 times, completing six for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Massei's favorite target was Williams, who wound up with 54 yards on three receptions and a score, while recording one catch apiece were Woodard, on his 23-yard TD, sophomore wide receiver
Adam Giordano (Cherry Hill, NJ / Camden Catholic / Milford Academy (NY), who made a nifty, juggling 18-yard second-quarter reception in traffic, and junior wide receiver D'erren Wilson (Greeneville, TX / Greeneville/UCF), whose reception went for 12 yards.
Defensively, Loiselle finished with a team-high seven tackle, with three tackles for loss and two sacks. Sophomore outside linebacker Allah Session (Elmira, NY / Elmira) was active early and often, registering six tackles, highlighted by a career-high three sacks.
Also recording six stops on the day was junior inside linebacker
Justin Osuji (West Orange, NJ / West Orange), who added a sack, while redshirt-junior linebacker
Kishon Banks (Pennsauken / Paul VI) , one of which went for a sack, and sophomore cornerback
Myron Morris added five tackles apiece.
For RMU, Barr went 16-of-33 passing for 161 yards while Harrison Dreher was the Colonials' leading ground-gainer with 59 yards on 10 carries.
