Staten Island, NY – Wagner's women's soccer team lost its final game before the start of conference play, as the Seahawks fell to Columbia 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at Hameline Field.
Senior captain
Sydney McNutt (Hatboro, PA / Hatboro-Horsham) had the first opportunity of the game for the Seahawks, but her header in the box sailed just wide of the goal. Senior
Taylor Sackaris (St. James, NY / Smithtown East) also added an attempt on goal during the first 45 minutes of play. The visitors took the lead on a goal by Natalie Neshat, while Emma Anderson, with two more scores, and Madeline Linde gave the Lions a 4-0 halftime lead.
In the second period, the Green and White's most promising scoring chance came after a corner from freshman midfielder
Maria Nunez (East Greenwich, RI / East Greenwich, but sophomore midfielder
Peyton Beck's (St. Louis, MO / Webster Groves) header was saved. Nunez added another shot on goal for Wagner, but was unable to put the ball into the net.
Junior
Jessica Wilm (Shelton, CT / Shelton) had two saves for Wagner in the first half, while sophomore
Katie Viscardi (Hazlet, NJ / Mater Dei Prep) added three saves in the second period.
Wagner will begin Northeast Conference (NEC) play at LIU Brooklyn next Friday, September 30, at 5:00 pm.
