Staten Island, NY - The Wagner men's tennis improved to 2-0 on the season after completing the doubleheader sweep in their second home match of the season, shutting out the Rider University Broncs, 7-0, on Wednesday afternoon.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, the Green & White bested the St. Francis  Brooklyn Terriers, 6-1, for their first Northeast Conference (NEC) victory of the season.

"Our main focus today was to stay aggressive while taking advantage of opportunities," commented head coach Jason Sinkoff. "We played a lot of tennis today with the doubleheader and the guys stayed focus and got the job done."

The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the overall match after sweeping through all three doubles matches.  The pairing of freshman Anatoliy Lashkul (Kiev, Ukraine/High School #78) along with sophomore Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa/Kersney College Secondary School) earned their fourth win of the season, defeating Rider's Chris Popso/Adam Levi, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles play,

In singles competition, freshman Hans Ohrner (Margate, FL/Coral Springs Christian Academy) and junior Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) each picked up their fifth singles win of the season, as Ohrner defeated Brandon Gildea, 6-2; 6-3 while Boyd bested Ryan Ciaccio, 6-3; 6-1.

For Boyd, it marks win no. 39 of his career, running his overall singles record to 39-16 while recording his 30th dual match victory to improve to 30-12.

"All of our newcomers came away with a win today," added Sinkoff. "I am proud of their attitude and effort they exhibited today."

The Seahawks will conclude its season-high four match homestand, starting on September 17 as they host the Hofstra University Pride followed by the Saint Peter's University Peacocks on September 18th.
