Staten Island, NY – A walk-off RBI single by freshman
Jessica Carlucci (Manalapan, NJ/Saint John Vianney) lifted the Wagner College softball team over Iona 4-3 in game one, and the Seahawks went on to defeat the Gaels 7-0 in the nightcap of Wednesday's doubleheader.
With the sweep, the Seahawks improve to 16-23 overall while the Gaels fall to 8-26 on the season.
Junior
McKaleigh Goodale (Bradenton, FL/Lakewood Ranch) picked up both wins in Wednesday's doubleheader, improving to 7-9 on the season. The Sunshine State native struck out five batters in 8.2 innings pitched with no walks while scattering six hits in the circle.
Game One Recap: Wagner 4 Iona 3
A seventh inning rally was capped off with a by a Carlucci RBI single to right field as the Seahawks walked off with a 4-3 victory over Iona in game one.
Freshman left fielder
Lauren Serrato (Litchfield Park, AZ/Verrado) paced the Seahawks, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored while freshman second baseman
Karen Prihoda (Hamilton Square, NJ/The Lawrenceville School) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Sophomore
Maddie Marable (Reno, NV/Earl Wooster) sent a two-out single to give Wagner a baserunner. Prihoda ripped Wagner's second straight hit through the right side which scored Marable for the game's first run.
The Gaels scored a run in their half of the second, third and fourth to take a two-run lead. The score remained a two-run deficit until the bottom of the seventh.
Freshman shortstop
Erica Krumbine (Freehold, NJ/Saint John Vianney) drew a lead-off walk to begin the Green & White's comeback. Junior centerfielder
Brianna Tredway (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) doubled, giving Wagner runners in scoring position with nobody out. A Serrato singled to left field which plated Krumbine and Tredway, who tied the game after a throwing error by Iona's left fielder as Serrato moved up to second on the overthrow.
A sacrifice bunt from Marable advanced Serrato to third before Carlucci delivered the game-winning single.
Wagner recorded nine hits in the contest while Iona tallied a total of eight.

After two scoreless innings, Wagner opened the scoring as freshman
Morgan Almodovar (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) crossed the plate on a fielding error by the Gaels' second baseman. Almodovar pinch-ran for senior catcher
Megan Moore (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts).
The Seahawks increased its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth. With Marable on third after a passed ball and walk to Prihoda, Iona's backstop, Tori Danner, tried to throw out Prihoda but her throw sailed into center field, allowing Marable to score. A Goodale single to the deepest part of right field plated Prihoda.
Wagner continued to add on to its lead as in the bottom of the fifth, Marable connected on a two-run homer that extended the lead to 5-0. In the next inning, Goodale put the game away with a two-run home run over the right-center fence.
On top of going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored, Goodale pitched a complete game shutout en route to picking up her second win of the day.
The Seahawks return to action when they host fellow Northeast Conference (NEC) member, Sacred Heart, in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23.
