Results (HTML)Staten Island, NY - The Wagner men's tennis team were shutout at home on Sunday, falling to the Bryant University Bulldogs, 7-0, in a Northeast Conference (NEC) match.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 7-12 overall and 1-4 in league play while the Bulldogs improve to 9-11 and a perfect 3-0 in conference contests.
"Despite the result, our guys played a lot of tight sets and competed extremely well," commented head coach
Jason Sinkoff.
"We are playing our best tennis heading into our final regular season conference match tomorrow (against Mount St. Mary's)," added Sinkoff. "Tomorrow is our Green & White game and, more importantly, seeding implications are on the line for the upcoming NEC Tournament. It would be great to see all our the entire Wagner community come out and show their support."
Bryant had taken both Flight No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches. The Seahawks avoided the sweep as the pairing of freshmen
Dale Sandy (Durban, South Africa/Kersney College Secondary School) and
Eric Poland (Fort Meyers, FL/Bishop Verot) earned a 7-6 (7-5) victory in No. 1 Flight doubles against Nick Lamart and Michael Plutt.
"Dale (Sandy) and Eric (Poland) played arguably their best doubles match of the season," said Sinkoff. "They beat the conference's top doubles pairing and shows that both Sandy and Poland can play with anyone in the circuit."
The Seahawks will conclude its conference slate tomorrow, April 18, against the Mount St. Mary's. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
