Hamden, CT – The Wagner men's tennis team returned to action this afternoon after being idle for two weeks and dropped a 7-0 decision at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) member, Quinnipiac University.

With the setback, the Seahawks stand at 6-7 overall while the Bobcats improve to 9-6 on the season.

"We know as a team what we need to focus on and get better at and with a short turnaround, we look forward to that challenge and taking on a program of UConn's caliber," commented first-year head coach Jason Sinkoff

The Green & White were competitive throughout the afternoon despite mustering a 6-4 triumph in No. 2 doubles as the pairing of sophomore Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) and freshman Ilya Kneppelhout (Woubrugge, Netherlands/Scala College Secondary School) defeated the tandem of Luke Roser and Ryoma Haraguchi; 6-4.

With the victory, Boyd & Kneppelhout improve to 10-2 overall as a doubles pairing while posting a 7-2 mark in dual action and remain unbeaten out of the Flight # 2 spot (2-0). Additionally, Boyd & Kneppelhout are 8-2 in their last ten matches when paired up.

"Ilya and Charlton stepped it up today in doubles play," added Sinkoff. "Both of them took great angels and finished off points at the net in earning the victory this afternoon."

The Bobcats took the doubles point after securing identical 6-2 victories in No. 1, and No. 3 doubles play. Quinnipiac continued its hot start and swept all six singles matches in straight sets despite valiant efforts from the Seahawks.

Boyd and fellow classmate Allen Wang (Clovis, CA/Buchanan) each suffered their first defeats in No. 4 and No. 5 singles as Boyd now owns a 4-1 mark out of the Flight #4 position while Wang drops to 2-1 this season out of the Flight #5 spot.

Wagner will look to stop a four-match losing streak with quick turnaround tomorrow, March 24, as they head to Storrs, CT to tangle with American Athletic Conference (AAC) member, the UConn Huskies. The match is set to begin at 12:00 p.m.
