At the beginning of the night, there was a three-way tie atop the NEC standings between Wagner, Fairleigh Dickinson, and Mount St. Mary's, each of whom entered tonight's play sporting 7-3 league marks.
When the dust had settled, the Knights' win over the Seahawks, coupled with LIU Brooklyn's 77-74 home victory over the Mount, puts FDU into first place alone at 8-3 with Wagner and the Mountaineers now tied for second at 7-4 apiece.
Four Seahawks finished in double-figures, led by reigning NEC Player of the Week junior guard
Michael Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Lamar Consolidated [San Jacinto College]) who scored a game-high 24 points and notched his ninth double-double of the season, adding a game and team-leading 15 rebounds in 41 minutes of play.
Sophomore guard

Fairleigh Dickinson had five players in double-digits, anchored by a team-hgh 22 from Potts, Jr., which went along with 11 rebounds. Wagner held a 67-60 advantage with 4:15 left in regulation as junior forward
Greg Senat (Elmont, NY/Elmont [Marianapolis Prep]) aggressively soared in for a layup. FDU's answer came in the form of a Darnell Edge three-pointer with 4:01 remaining, triggering a 9-2 run that was topped off by a Marques Towns layup, knotting the contest at 69.
With just 47 seconds to go in regulation, Carey hit a driving layup to put the home team up 71-69. The Knights answered with a layup of their own by Tyrone O'Garro, tying the score at 71 with just 26 seconds showing on the game clock.
Playing for the last shot in front of 1,722 frenzied Seahawk fans, the Green & White spread the floor and entrusted the final shot to Henson, the squad's leading scorer.
The second-year Seahawk dribbled the ball out high before making a quick jab step to his left, as time wound down to six seconds. Henson created enough space to free himself for a potential game-winning 10-footer, but his shot rattled around and out as the horn sounded, sending the game into overtime tied at 71.
In the extra session, the Seahawks opened with an 8-2 burst, with six straight points from Carey. It was the Nassau, Bahamas native's two free-throws that gave Wagner a 79-73 lead with 1:46 left in the stanza.
FDU, the league's highest-scoring team at 77.6 ppg, countered with a game-clinching 9-0 run, all coming from long range. On its first possession, Edge drilled a long-range shot that closed the gap to 79-76. After Henson had misfired on a three-ball, Potts, Jr. tied the game at 79 after rattling one in from downtown.
After a pair of offensive rebounds had been secured by the Knights, Townes was able to dribble to his left, heading for the corner and skipped it cross-court to Potts, Jr., who received the pass in the deep right corned and drained the contested trifecta, giving the visitors an 82-79 lead with 1.1 left in overtime.
Following a Wagner timeout, the officials reviewed the monitor and added .02 of a second which gave Wagner 1.3 seconds to send the game to potentially double overtime.
Wagner was inbounding from underneath FDU's basket. Redshirt senior guard
Dwaun Anderson (Suttons Bay, MI/Suttons Bay [Michigan State] ran along the baseline to his left, lofting a high-arching pass that found the hands of Carey, who was able to plant and put up a 30-foot three-point that ricocheted off the rim, giving the Knights the win.
The game, which featured just four lead changes and eight ties, marked the second time in three games, and fourth time all season, that Wagner was outrebounded on the boards, 47-44 tonight.
Both teams dished out double-digit assists (14 for Wagner, 13 for FDU), but it was the Knights' ability to knock in the long-range ball that gave them victory, shooting 47.6 percent from three while Wagner had to settle for just 30.0 percent (6-of-20).
Wagner returns to action on Saturday when the Seahawks host Mount St. Mary's in a 4:00 p.m. tip.
