Staten Island, NY – In a matchup between newly-minted Northeast Conference (NEC) regular season champions, Wagner and defending league-champion, Robert Morris, the Seahawks earned a 62-54 victory over the Colonials in the regular season finale on Saturday afternoon.

With today's victory, Wagner finishes the regular season with an overall record of 20-9 and a conference mark of 13-5 while RMU falls to 10-21 on the season and 8-10 in league play. It is the sixth time in the program's history that men's basketball team had recorded 20 or more victories and the first since the 2011-12 season when the Seahawks, under Dan Hurley, went 25-6.

As a result of today's game, top-seeded Wagner will face these same Colonials in Wednesday night's quarterfinal contest at the Spiro Sports Center in the No. 1 vs. No.8 matchup.

Before this afternoon's contest, the Seahawks recognized its two senior players and one from the program's support staff.  Team manager Tatyana Disla along with graduate forward Henry Brooks (New Orleans, LA/Miller Grove [University of Pennsylvania] and redshirt senior guard Dwaun Anderson (Suttons Bay, MI/Suttons Bay [Michigan State]) were all recognized in a pregame ceremony at center court.

Junior guard Michael Carey led the way for the Green & White, as he poured in 23 points and a career-best 17 rebounds in 32 minutes of action.  While Carey was the lone Wagner player in double figures, ten different Seahawks found the scoring column with sophomore guard Corey Henson (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha Catholic) and Brooks each scoring eight while Anderson and sophomore guard JoJo Cooper (Wilmington, DE/Concord) chipped in six apiece.

Isaiah Stills led the way for the Colonials with 15 while Rodney Pryor added 14.

Both teams were stagnant in the opening minutes of the contest as the visitors held an 8-7 lead with Wagner making three of its first seven shots while the Colonials went 3-of-8.

Robert Morris went on an 11-2 run in taking their largest lead of the stanza at 19-9.  RMU shot converted on 5-of-7 from the field during the run while limiting the Seahawks to just 1-of-5 and forced three turnovers.

The regular season champions answered with an 11-0 outburst of their own, taking a 20-19 lead with 5:04 left in the half. Wagner converted 80.0 percent during this run while forcing three Colonials turnovers and one allowing one shot.

After RMU's Isaiah Still had given the visitors a 21-20 lead, the Seahawks ignited a 24-7 run over an 11:11 period that found the home team leading 44-26.  From the start of the second half, Wagner outscored RMU, 16-5, with the Seahawks shooting close to 70.0 percent and limiting the Colonials to just two made shots.

The defending league champions showed its scoring prowess in response, staging a 23-10 run of its own that trimmed the Wagner lead to just five with 2:42 left to play after Kavon Stewart sank a pair from the free-throw line.  The Seahawks were able to close the game, scoring eight of the final 13 points to hang on for the 62-54 victory.

Wagner shot 42.9 percent from the field but struggled to find its rhythm from the outside, only hitting 3-of-14 from long range. The Seahawks outmuscled the Colonials on the boards, 43-31, while outscoring RMU 20-10 on second chance opportunities.
