Women’s Basketball Concludes Non-Conference Schedule With Loss At Princeton

Princeton, NJ – Bella Alarie scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures as the Princeton University women's basketball team posted a 107-44 win over injury-plagued Wagner at Jadwin Gymnasium tonight.

Junior guard Tanasia Russell (Vineland, NJ / Vineland) scored a season-high 17 points on the night for the Seahawks while freshman forward Kerstie Phills (Charlotte, NC / Charlotte Christian) added a career-high 16 points along with a team-high six rebounds and two steals.

For the athletic 5-8 Russell, this marked the seventh time this season that she has hit for double figures in the nine games she's played. In the process, the South Jersey native upped her team-best scoring average to 11.9 points per game. For Phills, her previous career high scoring game came at home vs. Towson back on November 17, when the versatile 5-9 frosh recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds that night.

In addition to Alarie's game-high 20 points, Princeton received double-digit outings from Tia Weledji (19), Taylor Brown (15), Jordan Muhammad (13), and Vanessa Smith (12).

The Tigers, who have earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament in five out of the last six seasons, outshot Wagner 57 percent to 37 percent and held a 41-25 edge in the rebounding department. With the loss, Wagner falls to 1-10 on the season while the Tigers improved to 5-6.

The Seahawks open Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Thursday, December 29 when they travel to New Britain, CT to meet the Central Connecticut Blue Devils in a 7:00 p.m. start.

Note: Bella Alarie, a 6-4 freshman forward from Bethesda, MD, is the daughter of Mark Alarie, a two-time First-Team All-ACC selection at Duke and a first-round choice of the Denver Nuggets in the 1986 NBA Draft, who went on to play five seasons in the league.
