Box Score (Wagner at St. John's)
Queens, NY- The Wagner College men's tennis team was defeated for the first time this season, dropping a 6-0 decision to the St. John's Red Storm on Friday evening.
With the loss, the Seahawks stand at 7-1 on the season while St. John's improves to 3-2 on the season.
"Tonight was a humbling experience for us," said head coach
Danny Kreyman. "I was proud of
Juan Alanis performance in his first-ever collegiate match. As a whole, we will regroup and get set for our next opponent, Colgate on Saturday."
In Singles #1, freshman
Ryan Khan was defeated by Robert Livi, 6-2; 6-0. In #2 action, Alanis, who was recently added for the Spring season, dropped the first set, 6-4, but fought back to rally in the second, forcing a tie-breaker in which his opponent, Elio Levi, was able to edge him, 7-6.
In #3 singles action,
Allen Wang fell to Vaidik Munshaw in straight sets, 6-1; 6-0.
Charlton Boyd was able to record two points in the first set, but ultimately was defeated by Michael-John Every, 6-2; 6-3. Rounding the evening's event,
Sam Flaxman fell to Freddy Ruiz Acevedo, 6-1; 6-1 and in the final singles match,
Jakob Mostyn-Kolb, who was also inked before the start of the Spring season, was defeated by Vasili Caspri, 6-4; 6-1.
