Men's Tennis Battles Temple Before Falling 5-2

Philadelphia, PA - The Wagner men's tennis team battled the Temple University Owls on Saturday evening before falling by a count of 5-2 at the Upper Dublin Sports Center.

Freshman Michal Rolski (Kielczow, Poland/Oak Meadow (VT), who earned Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Month honors in October, picked up his eighth win of the season and improves to 5-0 in the No. 1 single spot, defeating Santiago Canete 6-2, 6-4.

"Today was a great match filled with a lot of close matches," said co-captain Rolski.  "It will give us more confidence in the future.  We have to keep a positive attitude and keep competing in the next matches."

Fellow freshman Charlton Boyd (Shreveport, LA/Loyola College Prep) picked up his team-leading 11th win of the season,notching his first triumph out of the No. 6 singles spot, in securing a 7-6 (7-5), 6-0 victory over Ondre Cargill.

In doubles action, the freshman tandem of Juan Alanis (Mexico City, Mexico/K12 International Academy) and Rolski picked up their second win as a pair, defeating the duo of Vineet Naran and Canete, 6-4.

Temple posted a doubles point with a 6-2 victory at the third flight, followed by a 6-3 triumph at the first flight. In all, the Owls took four of the six flights, with three straight-set victories.

The Seahawks will look to snap their three-match losing skid on Saturday, February 21 when they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to square off against NEC rival Mount St. Mary's.
