Lawrenceville, NJ –
Redshirt senior guard Dwaun Anderson (Suttons Bay, MI/Suttons Bay [Michigan State]) soared high to slam home a game-winning, one-handed put-back jam off a missed jumper by sophomore guard Corey Henson (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha Catholic) to give Wagner a stirring 65-64 road victory over Rider.

In winning their fifth straight game, the Seahawks improve to 5-2 on the season while the Broncs  fall to 1-8.

Henson scored 13 points to pace Wagner offensively while Anderson added 12. Junior guard Michael Carey (Nassau, Bahamas/Lamar Consolidated/San Jacinto College) and sophomore forward Japhet Kadji (Douala, Cameroon / Gulliver Prep [IMG Academy]) added 11 apiece for Wagner. This marked the second time this season that Wagner has placed four players in double figures.

Kadji made a layup and a three-pointer and Henson hit two free throws to put Wagner up 61-56 with 2:47 left. Kahlil Thomas and Xavier Lundy each made a pair of free throws to pull Rider within one just more than a minute later.

After a 10-foot jumper by Anderson made it 63-60 with 60 seconds to play, Lundy made back-to-back layups to give the Broncs a one-point lead with 12 seconds remaining. On Wagner's ensuing possession, Anderson had a layup blocked out of bounds with six seconds left by Lundy and Seahawk head coach Bashir Mason then called a time out to design the final possession. From underneath the Seahawk basket, Carey lofted the inbounds pass to an open Henson, whose three-point try bounded high off of the back of the rim.

In traffic, Anderson, the athletic, 6-4, 210 former Mr. Basketball of his home state of Michigan, then soared over a host of players from both teams to slam home the putback jam. Following a timeout with two seconds to play, Rider did manage to get off a potential game-winning three-pointer by Teddy Okerafor which came up short.

"A really huge win for us," said Mason, following the hotly-contested contest that featured a dozen lead changes and 10 ties.  "To go on the road like this and win a close game, a really good college basketball game, I'm just super-proud of the way guys reacted."

The Seahawks finished the contest shooting 46.4 percent from the field (26-of-56) while hitting 70.0 percent from the free-throw line (7-of-10). Both teams finished the game with 35 rebounds and scored 34 points in the paint, but Wagner's reserve outscored the Broncs' bench, 25-to-11, led by Kadji's 11 points.

Lundy led Rider with a career-high 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.  Jimmie Taylor added 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting while converting 3-of-5 from the outside.

Early in the first half, both teams traded baskets with the lead never getting past five points as Rider took an 18-13 lead after Lundy muscled in two on a layup chance. The Seahawks answered back with a left-handed, layup off the hands of Aaman, who closed the gap to 18-15 with 12:41 left in the stanza.

Rider was able to take a 28-24 with 5:08 left in the frame, before the Green & White ignited a 13-to-4 run to close out the first half of play and take a 37-32 lead after Henson, who had 11 points in the opening period, was able to knock in the contested shot in the paint.

For the half, Wagner shot 59.3 percent from the field (16-of-27) while taking a slim 16-to-15 edge on the boards.  Both teams got the bulk of their scoring from inside the paint, 22-20 in favor of Rider in the first half but the Seahawks bench contributed 15 points, led by six from Aaman.

Wagner will be back in action on Sunday, December 13 as the Seahawls travel to West Long Branch, NJ to tangle with their second straight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opponent, the Monmouth University Hawks.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with the game being streamed live on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app.
