Seahawks Drop 4-3 Nailbiter To Holy Cross

Holy Cross defeated Wagner 4-3 in non-conference action on Alumni Day at the Wagner Tennis Courts.

The teams split the six singles matches with the Crusaders capturing the doubles point en route to improving to 2-5. In defeat, the Seahawks fall to 1-5.

During doubles action, Holy Cross won quickly at No. 2 and No. 3 before the duo of sophomore Christian Grau (Dallas, TX / Spring Creek Academy) and freshman Sam Flaxman (Avon, CT / Avon) posted a dominating 8-1 victory at No. 1.

After the Crusaders extended the lead out to 2-0 with a win at No. 4 singles, Grau put the Green & White on the scoreboard with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 1.

Holy Cross answered with a win at No. 2 before Flaxman trimmed the deficit to 3-2 with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 victory in the third flight. The Crusaders then clinched the match with a win at No. 5 singles.

Freshman Devon Flint (Pine Bush, NY / Pine Bush) concluded the match with an impressive 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 victory at No. 6 singles to provide the final 4-3 score.

Wagner returns to action at Mount St. Mary's on Friday, March 21 at 3:00 pm.
